Why You Should Switch to Eco-Friendly Gift Wraps this Christmas

Why You Should Switch to Eco-Friendly Gift Wraps this Christmas

Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, but as you can imagine, it is also one of the most wasteful times, with an increasing rise of wasted materials produced and disposed every year.

With Christmas being celebrated in numerous countries around the world and with a world population of roughly 7.7 billion people (as of November 2019), you can imagine the plethora of food, bubble wrap, wrapping paper and plastic that is being disposed of after all these gifts have been opened.

Gift wrap is a product destined for landfill. Most of the wrapping paper you find in gift shops, card shops and especially the supermarket, are actually coated with plastic, or covered in glitter (micro plastics) and are then wrapped in a non-recyclable plastic film.

Research found that the UK get through over 227,000 miles of wrapping paper, 40 million rolls of tape and up to 100 million black bags full of packaging from gifts. And if you didn’t already know, plastic waste ends up polluting our beloved seas and oceans when it’s being blown away from landfill sites. The more waste we send to the landfills, the more the temperature of the Earth rises and the higher the chances of natural disasters happening across the world.

So we are challenging you to join us on the challenge and make a conscious effort to reduce your waste this Christmas with 3 easy alternatives:

1) Switch to environmentally friendly wrapping paper (Brown Kraft paper)

2) Switch to paper tape because if you think twice, plastic tape is yet another form of plastic that ends up in the ocean. PVC and clear sticky tape can easily be replaced with masking tape (made from paper).

3) Use jute string because plastic ribbon is one of the most hazardous items for marine life.

We will be following all of the steps above with our packaging and try to be as environmentally conscious as we can when we deliver our products to your door. If your socks are a gift to a partner, family, friend or loved one - let us know and we’ll wrap it for you!
