Leiho Emergency Winter Campaign

Leiho donates over 350 hot meals, drinks and winter essentials to those in need this winter.

Last week we ran a 2-day urgent winter campaign where 100% profits from Leiho would go towards providing food and warmth for homeless people sleeping out on the streets in such low and cold temperatures during lockdown. The campaign was a success given such short notice. Our Leiho team had 2 days after the campaign to gather resources from other local businesses, collect donations and purchase winter essentials needed for an outreach as soon as possible because no one deserves to sit out freezing in pain and discomfort.

Overall we collectively were able to donate over 200 winter essentials such as thermal socks, beanies, gloves and blankets, as well as over 150 hot meals, drinks and healthy snacks. It was such an inspiring and emotional day seeing faces on the streets light up.

We'd like to thank every single person in our community that supported us and we would especially like to thank the following organisations and local businesses for stepping in to make this happen.

Sapore Vero

With a sudden urgency to provide the one thing most of us love - we couldn’t help but get in touch with Giuseppe. Sapore Vero take pride in serving authentic Italian food and the best wood-fired pizza you’ll find outside of Naples. The Sapore Vero team are based in Beckenham and Hither Green and to support their family-friendly business we bought 10 boxes of pizzas because you can't go wrong with pizza!

Rest Space London

The founders of Rest Space, Supa and Kate, help to provide sustainable and comfortable places to rest at work, focusing their efforts towards healthcare and frontline workers. A few days before our urgent winter campaign, the Rest Space reached out because they wanted to turn Supa’s passion for cooking into meals for those in need. Working with Muay Supermarket based in Earl’s Court, Kate and Supa have sourced ingredients that would otherwise go to waste to create tasty asian dishes.

Lucianos

A big and warm thanks to Maritza and Enzo for their generous donation of the dishes that reminded many people of home cooked meals. The Lucianos team kindly put together dozens of freshly made Lasagne and Melanzane alla Parmigiana from their award winning Italian kitchen.

Borough Food Cooperative

The Borough Food Cooperative provided us with insulating gloves, sanitary care and lots of nutritious Deliciously Ella nut butter balls & crisps. The Cooperative remains open even throughout lockdown to provide discounted healthy meals and grocery items like fruits, vegetables, beans, milk, bread and much more to local households and vulnerable communities.

As we always say, it's all of our efforts put together that really does make a big difference so thank you everyone who was involved whether it was buying an item, sharing our posts, donating meals, providing us with essentials - it meant the world to both our team and to the people on the streets. Stay kind.
