Repurposing cardboard boxes into Christmas gift boxes

Turn your cardboard boxes into gift boxes this Christmas.

It's Black Friday which means lots of online sales and lots of packaging. Christmas is supposed to be the most wonderful time of the year but it can also be the most wasteful and harmful to the environment.

This year specifically, plastic waste has been increasing as consumers rely on online shopping more than ever before. That means plastic bags and lots of cardboard boxes. That’s why we (Lydia and Thuta from Leiho) have put together easy and fun ways to reduce our waste by repurposing cardboard boxes from our online deliveries.

Join our Leiho team in an eco creative challenge by making a conscious effort to reduce your waste this Christmas with repurposed cardboard boxes turned into gift-boxes!

Here are some guidelines to reduce waste!

  1. Steer clear of wrapping paper. Most wrapping paper is coated in plastic which makes it that much harder to break down. Instead, look for an alternative such as kraft paper!
  2. Switch to paper tape or environmentally friendly glue to avoid more plastic!
  3. Be conscious of what decorations, i.e. ribbon, paint, etc., you are using and try to avoid choices that are harmful to the environment!

These are some quick examples from our team on how you can easily paint a box and fill it up again or use some coloured paper to give your old box a new festive personality!

We hope that together we can make a difference this year by using our creativity to decorate gifts in environmentally friendly ways!

If you end up redecorating a box from one of your online packages - share it with us! We'd love to see it.
