Leiho x NHS University Hospital of North Tees

Leiho is proud to be partnering with the emergency department at the University Hospital of North Tees to provide socks [and other essentials] to patients in need. This is a local project under the umbrella of the national “Emergency Medicine at the Deep End” network, which aims to address social determinants of health, particularly those caused by poverty.

"We meet patients regularly who arrive in the ED in dirty or threadbare socks. Some of our patients face some significant challenges and require some extra support. Often we need to cut or peel these socks off their feet, but have no suitable alternative with which to send them home. This leaves them at increased risk of foot injuries and foot ulcers, which can have consequences as severe as life-threatening sepsis or limb amputation.

The aim of this project is to provide a suitable pair of clean socks for any patient who needs it" says the Emergency Department at the hospital.
