Why we do what we do.
At Leiho, we believe that no matter who you are or what your background is, you should have access to the simplest essentials in life. There are so many basic items that vulnerable communities are living without such as socks, water, sanitary care and the list goes on. We want to bring you a range of different ways you can give back and share what we have with those in need.
Everyone should have a clean pair of socks.
We've seen many homeless people walk around the streets bare feet because someone has stolen their shoes and their socks are too worn out. When it's cold their feet need to be protected and during the summer when it's raining, their socks get wet! That's why for every pair of socks sold, we make sure we match the same amount donated to those who need a pair of clean socks.
Water as a
basic human need.
We all need water to survive. During the summer, homeless people are out in the scorching heat sitting on burning pavements with some (not all) drinking alcohol, taking drugs, sleeping in their hot tents - all of which increases their risk of dehydration and heat related illnesses. We are providing them with a lightweight, recyclable and refillable solution to help keep them hydrated. For every Leiho bottle sold, we give cartons of water to a homeless person.
Hunger as a barrier to education.
Every day 8.2 million children across India are forced to participate in child labour in order to earn their food. That means 1 in every 11 children are deprived of education. To distribute meals we have partnered with The Akshaya Patra Foundation, an organisation addressing malnutrition and classroom hunger in order to ensure that children have the motivation and nourishment they need to pursue an education for a greater future.
